The History of Weingut Reverchon

According to historical accounts, the history of the estate and its location reaches back to 1627. The property originally belonged to the church and passed into private ownership in 1685.

The Reverchon family acquired the estate in 1921, giving it the name it still bears today. A new phase began in 2007. Since then, the estate has developed with a clear focus on the Saar’s vineyards, quality-led viticulture and distinctive Rieslings.

Today, the estate is operated by Weingut Reverchon KG and trades under the name Weingut Reverchon.

Reverchon on the Saar

The estate is located in Konz-Filzen in the Saar valley. The Saar is part of Germany’s Mosel wine-growing region and is particularly known for Rieslings from steep slate vineyards.

Devonian slate shapes the vineyards around the estate, influencing soil structure, water availability and heat distribution. The Saar’s cool climate allows the grapes a comparatively long ripening period.

Our focus is on the relationship between origin, grape variety and vintage. Each wine should clearly express its vineyard and the conditions of its harvest year.

The Vineyards of Weingut Reverchon

Filzener Herrenberg

Filzener Herrenberg is Reverchon’s central vineyard. The estate owns the entire site, covering around 6.5 hectares. This exclusive ownership makes it a monopole vineyard.

This steep site on Devonian slate lies close to the estate. Managing it as a whole allows vineyard work to be tailored to the different areas and parcels of Herrenberg.

Herrenberg produces mainly Riesling. Depending on the parcel, ripeness and maturation, the wines reveal different aspects of the vineyard’s character.

Ockfener Bockstein

Reverchon also cultivates vines in Ockfener Bockstein, one of the Saar’s renowned historic vineyards, characterised by steep slopes and slate soils.

These wines add another important Saar origin to the range. The vineyard name appears clearly on the labels of the relevant wines.

Grape Varieties at Reverchon

Riesling is our most important grape variety and occupies the largest share of our vineyards. It is closely linked to the Saar’s history and international reputation.

We also grow Pinot Blanc (Weißburgunder), Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) and Chardonnay. The range therefore includes classic Saar Riesling as well as white and red wines from the Pinot family and Chardonnay.

Depending on variety, vineyard and vintage, we produce dry and feinherb (off-dry) wines, single-vineyard Rieslings, Pinot and Chardonnay wines, and sparkling wine.

Work in the Vineyard

Wine quality begins in the vineyard. Much of the work is done by hand, including tending the vines during the growing season and selectively picking the grapes.

Each vineyard and parcel is managed according to its location, soil structure and ripening pattern. Our aim is to harvest healthy, physiologically ripe grapes while preserving the character of their origin.

The Saar’s steep vineyards require a particularly high proportion of manual work. Grapes are harvested at the appropriate point of ripeness and then processed at the estate.

Winemaking at Reverchon

After harvest, the grapes are processed in our cellar in Konz-Filzen. Fermentation takes place predominantly with native yeasts naturally present on the grapes and in the cellar.

We use stainless-steel tanks and large wooden casks, including casks made by the Austrian cooper Stockinger.

The vessel is chosen according to grape variety, origin and desired style. Stainless steel allows clear, controlled maturation. Large wooden casks can add structure and maturity without making oak flavour dominant.

Some wines mature in the estate’s historic slate cellar, dating from 1924. Its natural conditions provide a stable environment for fermentation and maturation.

Our Wine Style

Slate soils and the Saar’s cool climate shape Reverchon’s wines. At the heart of the range are Rieslings with a clear sense of origin, defined structure and the region’s characteristic balance of freshness and ripeness.

The range covers different occasions and stages of maturity: approachable estate wines, single-vineyard wines and selected bottlings from particular parcels or vintages.

Alongside Riesling, we produce Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and sparkling wine. The exact range may change with each vintage.

Sustainability at Reverchon

Reverchon has been FAIR’N GREEN certified since 2017. This sustainability system for wine estates considers environmental, economic and social aspects of management.

Our sustainable development includes preserving vineyard soils over the long term, using natural resources carefully, supporting biodiversity and continuously improving working practices.

Sustainability is an ongoing process encompassing vineyard work, winemaking, energy and materials, and the estate’s economic stability.
